Ahhh.....NOW I remember winter!
It snowed about 6inches.
It layered up some with rain/ice.
Snowed some more.
It got cold...very cold..freeze your nose hairs cold.
I didnt want to go out.
It seems to become that nasty artic cold (below 10degrees with a nasty windchill factor) on the day I have to go to the IRS offices to get 1099 and W-2 forms.
It was that cold today.
I went to the IRS offices.
Cold, snowy, cold.
Did I mention it was cold?
Bbbrrrr......winter is finally here.

Got socks?

Some of you may know I like socks...a lot...the funkier the better. I do have two pair similar to the ones above and you too can get your very own pair or twelve from the Sock Lady of Vermont. I also went so far as to join a chain letter thing to get socks..to date I have received one of a possible 36 pair return. Alas, not to worry, Lizzie bought me a pair for Christmas and my Sister-in-law Anna knitted me two pair of socks with her very own hands...I'm sooooo impressed.
Speaking of Anna and being impressed...she's done it again. She's gone and got herself another 15 minutes of fame. (I think she must be up to a whole hour at this point with her projects over the years.) Anyway, I think her latest is really a six minute film but her socks are featured in it and that's all that counts.
Check it out here..it's a hoot. (choose the short film called Sole Mates)

Hey! Another Post from Me!
So I've started my "homeless" hours. It's the time between checking out of the hotel and our flight home...hhmmm...about 10 hours. Today I've picked the little hotel living room with the fireplace - cozy.
We watched "the news" on PBS last night. Ya know, the reaction to President Bush's plan to send more troops to Iraq. I listened to Madame Secretary Rice's explanations and I got shades of "Vietnam and we aren't and won't go into Cambodia" shivers up and down my spine. this is just not good. ( I said so before I heard the same from Senator Hagel) In my opinion, the war in Iraq is now a civil war - outsiders don't belong. We've "liberated"; We've train military personnel; it's now the Iraqi's right to decide what kind of government they want and implement it. Willies.......
We had a ghost in our room this week. Ok, well, maybe not a ghost but something was ringing the phone once an hour during the first night and a few times during the day. Unplugging the phone at night was the only solution to that. While discussing out room charge this morning at check out, I reminded them the ghost was still out and about AND they told me it's now effecting 4 other rooms and they have the phone company scheduled to come in to check the lines in all the rooms. What a PITA that will be. Ahem..."all the more reason to lower the rate in the Johnston's room" I'm good. As annoying as it was for us, I can't help but sympathize with the people here who are undergoing bone marrow transplants. I'm sure they need the phone ringing less than I do all night long.
The mass transit drivers in Seattle are very nice. My shuttle guy didn't pick me up again yesterday so I decided to take the bus back to the hotel. Ok, I got on the wrong bus from downtown - during peak hours the #71 bus becomes an express and doesn't go by the hotel..I needed #70 but it doesn't stop where I was standing...anyway..we got it all straightened out and I got back to the hotel just fine AND with knowledge of how to do the bus from yet another point. I'm getting there.
aaahhhh only 9.15 hours until take off...see you back in VT and have a fine weekend all........

I'm still Alive!
We brought snow/ice to Seattle again...I'm beginning to fear postings of our faces with big red slashes near TSA folks at SEA-TAC. Would you rather have locusts? (BTW, that side street is Aloha Street - Kind of ironic in my view)

I won't scoff at what passes for "snow" in Seattle since this is more than what we left behind in Vermont last Sunday. See it? The "grass" is white. It's still icy out there this morning and I really don't have much in the way of traction on my shoes either. I think I've heard tell of salt being used on the sidewalks but I'll wait a while to see before venturing out. I've got visions of my siding down some slippery slope in an embarrassing position.
So backing up..The grandkiddies came up New Years' weekend. We ventured out to the home for lunch with Great Granny and the annual height-in.....I think they each grew four inches or more over the year. I suppose we could have taken the child's coat off first but there are priorities, ya know.

Granny Morna was admonishing Demian to get the yardstick level. He may have learned that techinique from his mother...it was good for a half inch or so.
...and what good be better than a romp in the snow with a friend on your annual visit to the Grandparent's?......

...hot chocolate after and the posing of the 3 kiddies photo for posterity. I think Grandma told them to say "underpants"....;-D (Kieran,Aidan(my PIC's grandson)& Maura ) snort...she said underpants...
So in the meantime...we'll be leaving Seattle tomorrow - hopefully. I just might post again before too long but I wouldn't hold your breath if I were you.
Happy New Year.
