The one where I explain what I've done lately
The natives are beginning to complain about my lack of blogging...
Ok Ok, Let's see, what HAVE I been doing for the last 2 weeks....
I played Martha Stewart and made this wreath from her magazine:

Actually I made two of them. I gave this one to my SIL, Karen for their new house in VERMONT! Waving at the newest influx of flatlanders. Anyway, they have a proper VT farm house with lots of knooks and crannies and interesting old stuff with the house. I love it in spite of a few places where the windows and sills don't quite meet...might need to attend to that before the snows fly. (We went to visit them yesterday)
Way more information than you want coming up
I moved a gazillion leaves off the lawn and into the woods...some of them tried to escape back onto the lawn. Some made it but that just gives me an excuse to get out my handy dandy leaf blower and send them flying back. It's a contest I tell ya...one I'm ultimately going to lose unless I send them flying over to Williston!
Halloween came and went. We had thriteen people over for dinner the Sat before Halloween. Morgan and Nora made a surprise trip up to visit so that was great...we bought and ate cider donuts. Our guests had 5 children in tow between them (6-16)and the two youngest brought 5 pumpkins from their garden to carve. Of course *I* had to get out my pumpkin I bought to carve as well so we totally trashed the kitchen but had fun:
Nora made this awesome owl one

and I made holes in my pumpkin and filled them with marbles:

We had more than double our last year's trick or treaters Tuesday night...yup, 12 little critters. As a matter of fact, the adults lurking in the shadows outnumbered the kids. I was pleased to see the adults though. Most kids were impressed by my playdoh and poprocks treats. Snort, one little girl was just so facinated by the purple with yellow spots front door she nearly forgot her treats!
Our guests children were comforted by Morgan...yes, he was brought up by crazy people and isn't totally warped by their parents(fathers) going off on tangents on quantum physics or redshift or lake plumne rollovers all the while playing a game or eating dinner...please pass the broccoli...now where was I..oh yes, our friend Albert had an interesting theory... ;-D
So what else have we done...oh yes, we attended an informational meeting put on by the city council and the school board. They made a very nice presentation about where our property tax dollars go (which is all quite obvious if one looks at the lines of their tax bill) which of course absolves them of being at fault because afterall most of our tax money goes to the state to fund schools elsewhere. All that being said, the issue at hand is a ballot item that would change our city charter to allow for the citizens to vote on the new budgets rather than the present which allows for automatic increases based on some formula tied to the grand list without voter approval. We were basically the only ones there in favor of the charter change. Made for an interesting discussion. made me feel old because we were actually accused of not caring because OUR kids were already educated through the system...what about their kids??? HHmm...I remember being in their seat!
Speaking of old...it happened...we lined up at our local Price Chopper grocery store with a lot of other old people and got flu shots last Friday. Good lord, what's next? White belt and shoes? Rolled knee highs? Early bird speacials?
Oh, and did I mention I might have become interested in a game online: Kingdom of Loathing. If you can beat 'em....
Have a fine day all in spite of the fact November is here...dark dreary dank November.

Hi Fran,
I loved the wreath. Did you send a photo to Martha? Love the pumpkin. I never did get a chance to carve my first pumpkin yet.
I got my flu shot a couple of weeks ago and today I'm fighting a cold and sore throat.

Hi Dru Ann...Martha will just have to imagine lots of people using her directions for the wreath. I did however put on my own embellishments; hers was plain corn husks. Next year, DA..pumpkin guts for you! Feel better soon. Now THAT would make me crazy paying good money for a flu shot then getting sick. Grrrr

Fran, I love the wreath. You have been busy.
Ever since I started working at our local school, I have been much more likely to vote "no" on the school budget. Now I actually know how much waste there is and what they pay for individual programs. I also walk into the Superintendents office and say "I'm thinking of voting no, tell me why I shouldn't". I do the same with one of my best friends who also happens to be the School Board President.
