Not so simple...
"It's a little more complicated than that"...words often heard around here these days. Maybe it's always been that way, but for me and my idealized way of looking at the world things tended toward black and white, right and wrong, left and right and red and blue....now everything seems to have a little twist to it.
Now we have our former Governor/Presidential Candidate Howard Dean poised to become the leader of the DNC today. He'll probably do a very good job for them..he's a bright man and certainly doesn't lack enthusiasm. Living in Vermont under his governorship, I can't say I always agreed with him or even voted for him every time but I am pleased he has this opportunity before him.
Now I'm going to do another one of those "things" I do...take one aspect and rant at the injustice of it all! Remember, Howard was not necessarily MY choice for the Dems Last Presidential candidate...but in hindsight..maybe...BUT I honestly believe the media did more to derail his candidacy than any "primal scream" of his ever did. Give it a REST, Please! I beg you! CBS news last night had a segment on Dean's becoming the DNC Chair....but was it really that? Not in my opinion...it really had more to do with Howard's independence..his NOT toeing the line and his NOT kowtowing to the media. Apparently, Dean was asked to appear on the segment and he said "sure, as long as you don't replay the scream"...they did and he didn't. ...and that was really the point of CBS' segment. To once again derail Howard.
What are they afraid of? Someone who actually thinks for themselves? Someone who doesn't think as told to by the six second sound bite on the news? Which btw way is more opinion than fact these days. If any of the media had put a positive spin on the "primal scream", we all might just have someone other than George W sitting in the Oval Office. I also think that is scarier than anything else...listen up folks...the news media and the 6 second sound bite makes the decisions for the majority of this country who are too lazy to think for themselves. Doesn't that scare you???? But I digress....
Maybe Howard is a little more of a Vermonter than I have previously given him credit for....he's pretty darn Independent even for a Democrat!
At anyrate...it's more complicated than that...give the man a chance and judge for yourselves. It may take some work to weed through what we are fed for facts, but I'm willing to see what he does first and then decide for myself.
