Home Improvement 101
Take one slightly bowed wooden closet clothes rod.
Apply slightly more than maximum weight for slightly more than optimum duration.
Make trip to the hardware Store for new closet rod holders.
Replace broken one screw plastic closet rod holders with 3 screw metal (albeit slightly thinner) closet rod holders.
Add one reinforcing closet rod holder bracket in middle of closet; hanging from the underside of shelf.
Find and install a piece of 1/2" board behind reinfrocing bracket to make it flush with the back wall of closet.
Place old slightly bowed wooden closet rod in new brackets.
Recite all known profanities.
Make Second trip to hardware store for new wooden closet rod 1/4" to 3/8" longer.
Place new rod on new holders.
Place many clothes on new rod. Do not place old clothes that do not fit on new rod.
Plan to make trip to frame shop to replace broken glass in Framed Snowflake Bentley Print which fell off the wall in hallyway when nailing in 1/2" board for reinforcing bracket.
Have coffee and write blog entry about project. Little precious strikes again.

Bravo! I would have given up after the first step. That's better than my verions of home improvement which would be to get one of the poles with many hooks and there the clothes would sit.

It may have taken tow to three trips to Home Depot but it would have been fixed...of course it wouldn't have me who made all those trips and banged on the walls.....
Good Job,Fran!!! Tom says he is proud of you! ;-)

Thanks! It didn't hurt that all this work was in a closet far from normal view in an "Ernie House" to begin with...ANYTHING is an improvement. Oh and I must point out that I had to move the end pole holders forward toward the doors and I *did* check to make sure the coat hangers would still fit and the door shut first. Good thinking, huh? Would be just like Ernie to have some special opening where hanger only fit with 1/4" to spare or something.

That is good thinking and I did forget that the house was not a normal house.
