...and on the local front

This just frosts me no end. As if the hospital board isn't in need of someone without a personal agenda. I think I'm pretty mainstream when it comes to political correctness and although the "Crazy for you Bear" for Valentine's day did not appeal to me, I was no offended by it either. I've purchased many bears from VT Teddy Bear ofver the years so I get email and snail mail advertizing from them quite frequently. I received many notices about this bear long before the political correctness of it became an issue. Never once did I question the PCness of this bear and I certainly never thought the controversy would result in the removal of Elisabeth Robert from the hospital board of trustees. Geesh...that's what happens when you live in the big city and lose touch with real Vermonters.

hhhmmm...I wonder how many of those people who were soooo offended are out hawking the bear on eBay and getting their 15 minutes of fame on the local news.

It's snowing; it has been snowing since last night and it will continue to snow throughout the remainder of the day. Oh well, it was getting dirty looking out there anyway with all the melted snow and slush. March will be here soon enough with it being all dirty looking...that is definitely NOT the time to come to Vermont...we don't look very pretty then. So far there is about 6 inches of snow accumulated. yea Yippe...Schools were canceled for my PIC ( partner in crime) so we went grocery shopping. God forbid we should starve to death before we get out again.

I read the article and cannot believe she had to resign...over a bear...I'd like to kick that psychiatrist right in the ....oops, sorry!

While I'm not sure that the bear was reason enough for her to resign, the Vermont Teddy Bear Co. often strays way beyond the bounds of PC. Just tonight I witnessed a commercial of theirs that used liberal doses of double entendre, when distilled, it basically said: "give your girl a Vermont Teddy Bear, and she'll give you a BJ."

This commercial offended me, not because I'm a prude, (I'm not) but because their are hundreds of thousands of guys out there getting the message that a woman's love, or at least her physical expertise, can be purchased for the price of a teddy bear. We all know it would take much more than that.

Yikes, Gary..I'm offended at that. Strangly enough, we don't see many (any?) commericals locally for VT Teddy Bear. That sort of ineuendo would not fly here at all...not even in the big city. Maybe I ought to pay more attention to the email I get from them in the future. As usual nothing is simple, VT Teddy Bear did not endear themselves to the locals when they went public either..their IPO priced the average Vermonter right out. It didn't sit well with people who supported her when she was selling her bears out of a cart on Church Street. Thanks Gary...
