Calling Dr Suess.........

Red State, Blue State..right wing, left wing..which state do you reside in? Who cares??? Apparently, too many care!

I can almost understand the "need" for the polictical mapping that took place during the election of 2004. It certainly helped in the electoral vote count as it was happening. Of course, it didn't take into account whether the state voted 51% or 99% one way or another, just that the majority went Red or Blue.

I've read instances where Red/Blue state affiliation has been worn as a badge of honor. I've read slurs directed toward Blue/Red Staters. I haven't been thrilled with these comments but they have mostly been weblog related and I can pretend it's confined to politically oriented blogs. Maybe even isolated posts when someone gets their drawers in a twist about something and feels the need to back up their point with some them and us type distinction. God forbid one would use facts to support an arguement.

Be that as it may, I could handle all of that...until last night. On the CBS news yet. (Maybe that is my first mistake) On a non "news" item to begin with... It was a segment on Hardee's Monster Burger ( as if 900 calorie burger was news worthy ) BUT what did I hear John Roberts actually say? (sic) "...and what did memebers of this Red State say about these burgers?..." Red State? Main stream news? What does the political electoral college vote count have to do with Monster burgers? What is he really trying to say here..." Real Men want Meat" "Real American's Eat Meat" "Rednecks:Fats be Damned?" orrrrr did he just want to know what the diners in one St Louis, MO Hardee's that were interviewed thought? (which in truth is all they really had for facts...)

Do we really need another dividing factor in this country????????? Isn't gender and race and ethnicity not enough for us? Oh noooo, supposed political affliation is most important when it comes to our burgers! hhhmmm...so does that make Hardee's the Red fast Food joint(becasue the interviewees were positive in their remarks and of course EVERYONE who resides in a Red State is Republican, doncha know)) I wonder if maybe ...um...Wendy's is a Blue Burger Joint? I'll have to look into that distinction when I had an urge to eat meat! Wouldn't want to make a faux pas while getting my fries.

I do know one thing, though; If I'm going to continue to watch the "news" at night, I should at least try a different network.

sigh......

CBS, huh? Big shake-up there this week after a panel found that CBS jumped too quickly into the story of Bush's military career. This country is divided on so many things: Politics, abortion, guns, religion, and on and on and on. I am so glad (not) that we have another contentious issue: Burgers that will clog arteries!

Oh yes..I saw that little news item about CBS shake-up. Old Dan looks to be as contrite as a pup in poop...as Dan would say.

Huh, a good one, Fran! There is some question that Dan R's retirement may have been "suggested" by the brass at CBS.
