Joe Froggers
Morgan asked me for the Joe Frogger recipe today. Funny thing about family recipes...along with something good to eat (usually a favorite), you get a whole lot of history... and stories ....and memories. Joe Froggers is one of those Old New England recipes for good old round anytime molasses cookies, but my Mother-in-Law used it for her gingerbread men at Christmas time. I called and asked her today where she got the recipe...she picked it up on a visit to Old Sturbridge Village in MA. I remember making Joe Froggers only once before I got my "mighty mixer"...with 8 cups of flour and thick dough, I couldn't make a full batch with some wimpy mixer! Anway, I'm sure all the Grandsons ( my MIL, Morna's Grandsons) would have their own stories to tell about Joe Froggers, but mine is a mix of flashbacks. There were misshappen Joe Froggers from little hands "helping"...there were dancing and other posed Joe Froggers from more experienced and creative hands...there were many Joe Froggers with many many many extra red things on them....and there were anatomically correct Joe Froggers from bold college boys. A few years ago, I came home from Christmas shopping to find some Joe Froggers who were missing arms or legs...the oldest of the Grandsons had stopped by and couldn't resist the pile sitting there; he also couldn't resist leaving a little mischievous evidence of his deed as well. So Morgan..here's Granny's recipe...thanks for giving me some chuckles today and oh yeah...you also gave your Grandmother a whole lot of pleasure today..it made her feel pretty special and appreciated knowing a little bit of her is making it to another branch of the family tree. I think you gave quite a bit along with your request today..how cool is that?

Uh.... You forgot the most important part. The only acceptable topping which is put on the Frogger's pre cooking is the Cinnamon Red Hots.
As many as you like!

Now we know who used up a bottle of red hots on each Frogger...:-D

..and Nora...which offends you most about my carrot cake..the 4 eggs and cup of oil or the 3 cups of shredded carrots...veggies ya know!

LOL...as long as there is no raisins or cocnut in them.....

I'm ok with the carrots - it's the eggs and oil that I'm not ok with - and neither will anyone's heart or cholesterol after eating that cake ;)
